Title: The Darkest Sunrise

Series: The Darkest Sunrise Duet #1

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Author: Aly Martinez

Release Date: Available Now

Synopsis

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.

Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.

“You’re pregnant.”

“It’s a boy.”

“Your son needs a heart transplant.”

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.

Lies.

Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun.

Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.

“He’s gone.”

For ten years, the darkness consumed me.

In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.

“Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”

Review
The first book in The Darkest Sunrise duet was an intense and emotional read from start to end. As for that end? What?! It left me with so many questions and needing more. Luckily the next book is due out shortly so not long to wait.

This is a story of deep emotional angst and despair of two broken people who find a glimpse of the light in each other. However life sometimes has ways of throwing huge curveballs in the road to push even the most strongest of people to their limit!

Porter Reese is a darling of a man. A loving father, devastated widower, trying to do the best for his kids and keeping them safe. When his son is suffering in his illness, Porter takes a huge gamble of finding a cure for his son which brings him to hunt down the enigmatic Dr Mills. However their first meeting is unconventional and not how he saw the meeting to pan out. What he did find was a woman so far in the dark yet trying to hide with her fake fa├žade but maybe he could be the one to heal all her pain?

Charlotte Mills is a doctor who is one of the top leads in her specialist field. Her past has kept her on her one safe route and that is how she will remain. It took one handsome and comedic restaurateur to give her a glimpse of the light she so desperately yearns for to take her devastation away.

There is very little I can say about the plotline without giving everything away. Suffice to say though I was hooked and although I kind of had an inkling of the curveball to come it was still a gasp of a shocker when it did actually happen as envisioned. The ending was spectacular and dramatic it left me begging for the answers.

The chemistry and passion between Charlotte and Porter was intense and tangible. They were some funny one liners that were a welcomed high to the emotive and devastating lows. There was definitely lots of shade and light in this spellbinding read. A relatively quick read (or maybe that was me hoovering through the pages) it was one I was invested in and drawn to from the start. Four and a half stars.

Meet The Author

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
