Title: Real Deal
Series: Single Dads Club #1
Author: Piper Rayne
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Too much make-up.
I could go on and on. The other guys in the Single Dad’s Club would say I’m obsessed with finding them. But none of their kid’s mothers call a maximum-security prison home either, so their opinions mean shit.
Caterina Santora has her own list of red flags…
She’s too young.
She’s my client’s daughter.
She’s my five-year old’s camp counselor.
Even after repeating this mantra to myself every morning on the way to Lily’s summer camp, guess what happens the moment I see Cat? Yeah, that mantra turns into ride me, doggie style and reverse cowgirl.
Every. Damn. Time.
The fact that she doesn’t remember me from seven years before grates on me until I don’t have it in me to leave her alone any longer. I have to have her. But our lives are opposites in every way. In no way compatible.
This is the first book in a new series, Single Dad’s Club. There is a prequel novella called Jailbait which I would recommend is read before reading this book as it gives a good background as to what brought Marcus to Climax Cove, the small town where the series is set.
Six years ago Marcus was fending off the affections of a young Cat who had a serious teen crush on him. When she took things a little too far, he had to be harsh to end it going any further. Fast forward to six years and both their lives had moved in different directions but now it brings them full circle back in close proximity.
Cat is the youngest daughter in her rich family and had been spoilt and used to getting her own way but now she has grown up and her outlook has changed dramatically. Wanting to add to her CV, she takes up a post as a counsellor at a children’s summer camp in Climax Cove. She knows she might run the possibility of running into Marcus again but feels safe it will not be at the camp – how wrong she was!
Marcus has settled to a good life in Climax Cove, after making the decision to make his home there and carry on his father’s boat business after his death. He felt responsible for keeping the town afloat (in more ways than one) and bringing new business to the area. Now a successful business owner and a father of five year old Lily, he has little time for relationships after finding out he was to be a father and especially now Lily’s Mom is not in their lives. His focus is his little girl, his business and his friends in the Single Dad’s Club. Imagine his surprise then when a face from the past comes back into his sight and the vision he sees has matured into one very sexy woman. Not being able to get Cat off his mind he decides he needs to take this chemistry further if they can leave the past behind that is.
I liked the concept of this series and I love the single dad trope. Nothing like a tough alpha man being all sweet and loving with his baby girl. Lily is such a cutie too. Although I could feel the connection between Marcus and Cat it was a little slow going getting them to the romance (and passionate!) stage. It wasn’t a biggie though as it still kept me entertained and I found both characters likeable and believable.
There are some good secondary characters as well, especially Garrett (I hope he is coming up next!) who is a bit of an enigma in this book. He’s a big, tough and silent type which is one of my faves! As for Dane, he was a little annoying but I bet he ends up hiding some pain from the past that makes him be who he is. As the series unravels I am sure we will get to know this hot bunch of men in finite detail. Yum! I can’t wait.
Overall a good start to the series and looking forward to the next book. Four stars.

Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two established authors for the price of one. You might be wondering if you know us? Maybe you’ll read our books and figure it out. Maybe you won’t. Does it really matter?
We aren’t trying to stamp ourselves with a top-secret label. We wanted to write without apology. We wanted to not be pigeon holed into a specific outline. We wanted to give readers a story without them assuming how the story will flow. Everyone has their favorite authors, right? And when you pick up their books, you expect something from them. Whether it’s an alpha male, heavy angst, a happily ever after, there’s something you are absolutely certain the book will contain. Heck, we’re readers, too, we get it.
What can we tell you about ourselves? We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We're both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We're both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.
