An actor in the closet, a sheriff in love, and memories that won't stay hidden.

Jordan Darby is known as the King of Christmas. The star of eight made-for-TV Christmas movies, the leading man who always gets his girl. Filming at Crooked Tree Ranch in Montana, in the ice and snow, Jordan is fighting to make a go of his new company and dealing with fears of exposure over one huge secret. After all, who the hell would buy into him being a romantic straight lead if rumors about him being gay were proven to be true.

Sheriff Ryan Carter is advising on the new movie being made at Crooked Tree. He hoped this would be one day of work and nothing more. Until, that is, he meets the hero. But while Jordan is sexy, he's also very much stuck in the closet - everything that Ryan doesn't need in his life. And then lust becomes part of the equation, and Ryan's quiet life is thrown into turmoil.

Their story unfolds against the chaos that overtakes the ranch, with Adam regaining memories that terrify him and make him look at Justin differently, and Justin leaving the ranch to make things right. Only through trusting in love and friendship can Justin and Adam learn to look to the future instead of letting the past destroy everything. But will they ever see clearly enough to do that?

Review
This is the fourth book in the Montana series and although this is Ryan and Jordan’s book, it also covers more of the ongoing mystery around Adam and Justin’s disappearance twelve years ago. It definitely cannot be read as a standalone as even I got a bit lost at times and have read all this series.

The Crooked Tree ranch has been hired by a film production company to make a Christmas movie with the ranch as its back set. This brings Jordan Darby into town, the sexy B movie star who had once been a child star. He is also a closeted gay man but his five year plan for his company will finally allow him to be free to be himself and not who the audience want him to be.

Ryan Carter, the local sheriff, is brought in to discuss legalities and it is here he comes face to face with Jordan. Even though Jordan is ill, there are sparks and an instant attraction between them. However Ryan is unsure if his attraction is replicated at first as, surely this heart throb Christmas star is not gay?

I liked how the budding romance which was hesitant at first, smoothly picks up once it is established and even though Ryan is aware Jordan is not out and proud as he is, he is happy to start a ‘fun for now’ relationship with Jordan, whilst he is in town. But then the more they spend time together and conversations take place, then more feelings are brought into play that have them both yearning for this to be so much more.

Whilst the romance between Jordan and Ryan was hotting up, the sub plot of Adam and Justin was also entwined within the story. It was frustrating that Adam was not able to recall all that had happened and he started to take his frustration out on Justin, which lead to some friction between the brothers and best friends.

New characters were also brought into the mix such as Ryan’s brothers and Jordan’s twin. So with all these names and situations it was a busy storyline and at times I had to flick back to see who and what was going on. All the characters beginning with J also got confusing!

However I did love Jordan and Ryan together and I think my favourite partnership of the series. I therefore wish Adam and Justin’s story had been concluded in book three and we therefore got more of Jordan and Ryan in this book plus their siblings.

Overall though another enjoyable book in the series and one not to be missed. 4.5 stars.
