A man without memories, and the cop who never gave up hope.

When he wakes up in hospital, the victim of a brutal beating, John Doe, has no memories of who he is or who hurt him. The cops can find nothing to identify him and he can't remember anything to help... except the name Ethan and one recurring place from his dreams. Three words, and they're not much, but it's a start. Crooked Tree Ranch.

Cop, Ethan Allens has never stopped searching for his brother and his brother's best friend who vanished. When a report lands on Ethan's desk that may give new leads he jumps at the chance to follow them up. The man he finds isn't his brother, but it's someone who could maybe help him discover what happened ten years ago.

What neither man can know is that facing the very real demons of the past could very well destroy any kind of future they may think they have together.

Review
This follows on from Crooked Tree Ranch, the first book in the Montana series but it can be read as a standalone.

Ethan and Adam at ages seventeen and fifteen respectively, were on the cusp of beginning a teenage romance but then Adam, along with his best friend Justin, the brother of Ethan, disappear and have remained so for the last twelve years.

Ethan was devastated to lose both his love and his brother. Now a cop he has never stopped searching for them to try and find out what happened all those years ago. Then he gets a ‘red flag’ contact from Chicago police to tell him a link to a John Doe has been raised naming Ethan as the contact.

Adam wakes up in a hospital not knowing who he is, where he is or where he has come from. He has been severely beaten and has no memory apart from the names Ethan and Crooked Tree.

This was a great read full of mystery and suspense but also lots of heartfelt emotions and love. The mystery surrounding Adam and Justin’s disappearance starts to unravel but doesn’t get resolved in the book as this continues in the next book in the series. However there is a lot that is revealed and even though Justin is missing and Adam not being able to recall all that happened, the plot was cleverly woven and kept the reader guessing just what had happened all those years ago.

The connection between Adam and Ethan, gradually evolved with both aware of an intensity between them. Adam just having a ‘sense’ that Ethan is special to him and Ethan knowing that the promise of them was still lingering in their touch and effect of each other.

This was another fantastic read from RJ Scott, who is firmly becoming one of my top to go to authors when I am in need of a in depth storyline to sink into. This series is a great romantic suspense with plenty of angst, emotive play but also lots of passion and lust!

I would definitely recommend this author and this series as it is a firm favourite of mine and one not to be missed. Five Stars.
