Eli Bell is the only son of a police chief inspector and a forensic scientist. He's grown up wonky in a world that only deals with the straight and narrow -- and his new boyfriend isn't helping.

Rob Hawkes is six feet of muscle, tattoos, and arrest warrants. A career criminal and a former guest of Her Majesty's Prison Service, he'd rather hit Eli's parents than sit down to dinner with them. One wrong move, and Rob could destroy Eli -- and his family -- without a second thought.

But this isn't what it looks like.

Rob's not in control here -- and Eli's the one to blame.

Review

I think I just found a new author for me to stalk. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and shall look at other works by this author.

The storyline throws the reader right into the midst of the romance that is Rob and Eli. Although I do like a story that starts with a build-up of the romance, I loved that this one didn’t. I also loved that although the reader was given glimpses of what the ‘secret’ or the parts that Eli was holding back were, it was wonderful that we got to know all about Eli and his thoughts, about his dreams and his passion (yes one being Rob!) first. Not that I feel it would have made a difference as Eli is that much of a lovable character whatever, but I just liked it the way it was done.

When the characters were described I immediately came up with my preconception of how this would play out. Yes Rob was the hot headed, macho tough tattooed sexy guy and Eli the gentle lovable sweet guy. But then get them in the bedroom and all bets were off. I was so not expecting the D/s play and how intense this was but it was absolutely tangible and dramatic but at the same time so loving and gentle if that makes any sense!

The background of the two takes the common route of one being from a loving supportive family and the other from a harsh and violent past. But then little elements are added in to see the difficulties and relentless hopelessness that Eli has been through with his parents. Don’t get me wrong I liked Eli’s parents and could understand their hesitations about Rob, especially after what Eli had gone through but sometimes I just wanted to shout at them.

The relationship between Rob and Eli was gorgeous and I loved how Eli calmed this giant of a man and how he gave Rob an outlet to feel loved and be able to return that love without hesitation. The banter between them was hilarious too, especially when Rob’s brother Danny got in on the conversation. Being a ‘northerner’ myself I loved that this was on the nose and totally believable of how us northern folk behave. It was the easy acceptance from both brothers, Rob and Danny, and the ‘so what?’ kind of response when Eli revealed his true self.

I have tried to not give away any spoilers as I think the revelations are best kept back but suffice to say this was a wonderful plotline, great characters and a hot romance. Definitely would recommend and something different for the new reader. Really enjoyed. Five stars.

Author Bio

Matthew J. Metzger is the front for a British-born author dragged up in the south of England as part of a typical nuclear family with three kids, a mortgage, and no dog because a dog would get hair on the carpet. A brief escape to the north to study focused his writing from daydreaming rambles to his first novel, Our Last Summer. It is unquestionably better than the dissertation he produced at the same time for his university degree, but probably not as inventive as the excuses he provided for missing classes so often.

Matthew has since returned to the London area, and therefore lives mostly on the public transport. He suspects that his next few pieces will probably involve homicidal characters on the London Underground.
