This is the debut book of Ms Duncan although she has written previous books as part of a writing duo.  I like her writing style and this book re-iterates this for me.
Landon was at the top of his football career until fate stepped in and wiped everything he thought he had right from under his feet. He returns to his home town to live back with his parents and it’s here he meets Autumn but not for the first time as he is astounded to find out.

Autumn works at Landon’s Mom’s bakery and knows all about the famous Landon returning home. It is with some trepidation she meets him face to face for the first time in over a decade. They used to go to the same high school but Landon does not recognise her and Autumn doesn’t want him to, otherwise it will reveal who she used to be and a time she will never get over from the traumatising period in her young life.

However the past is revealed and with surprise on both sides they resolve any misgivings each have and a relationship develops much to Autumn’s shock. She still holds the insecurities from the past that will not let go of her and that continue to impede her present and future. She cannot believe that the gorgeous and handsome football star would ever look at her, let alone want to date her.
I really loved both characters and I believe a lot of women will recognise a part of themselves in Autumn. I did feel for her but at times I felt she was a little too over the top in her relapsing into her past self. I totally got she went through an horrendous school life subject of bullying but this was someone who had then gone on to develop a career and transform herself. Surely the insecurities would not still be so deep after all these years? But for the most part she was a strong person but at times she punished herself by blocking others out of her life.

Landon was a real sweetheart but he really must have gone around with blinkers on whilst he was at school and further on in his marriage. But anyhow I was glad to see he finally finds out about Valerie and what she did in the past.

The romance was lovely once it was on but there were a fair few times where it was interrupted, mainly by Autumn’s insecurities. But what is a good romance without some angst thrown in? The relationship was sweet and with some steam thrown in but not overtly so. If you don’t like your romances with a lot of erotic scenes then this is definitely one for you.

I like my storylines where good overturns the bad and this was true in this case. Who doesn’t like to see the jealous bullies, bigots and biatches get their comeuppance? I felt like cheering as we came up to the final chapter.

This was a great sports romance, with plenty of romance, a touch of angst and a beautiful HEA to grasp at the end. Four stars.

Excerpt
In a quiet, husky tone, Landon says, “I don’t know what it is about you, but I can’t help myself. I want to devour every inch of your skin every second I’m with you, and I think about all the places I want to feel you when I’m not.” And if I didn’t need new panties before, I definitely do now. I’ve never had a guy turn me on like this with simple words. His eyes remain on the road, but each syllable has left a hot trail straight to my most intimate parts. Because my brain has completely fizzled out, I’m left speechless. “Did I scare you?” He glances over at me with a sexy grin on his face.

“No, just processing. I’ve never had a guy talk to me that way before.” I look out my window, nervous to meet his eyes.

“And how am I talking to you?” His tone is commanding, like he wants to hear exactly what he does to me.

“Like you’re going to eat me alive and do things I couldn’t possibly recover from.” My voice comes out breathy as my own desires become quite obvious.

“I wouldn’t mind eating something, but I promise you’ll survive it, sweetheart. Barely.” My eyes widen and my skin instantly heats up all over. He gives me a knowing look and responds with a wink. My mouth goes completely dry and I suddenly have a very vivid imagination that runs wild with all the things he could do to me.
