Scarred by Love
By C.A. Harms

THIS BOOK CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT AND IS MEANT FOR MATURE AUDIENCES. SOME LANGUAGE MAY BE FOUND OFFENSIVE.

Riley thought she was in love. She thought she found the perfect guy until his aggressive behavior became too much to handle and she ran.

Becoming withdrawn from the world and hiding from the chance of loving again. Having four older brothers and a determined best friend she had no choice but to stand strong.

Over time Riley was able to open up once again. She had no idea that the one person she needed was right under her nose.

She was guarded and hesitant when it came to bad boys...after all it was a bad boy that shattered her once before.

Zander wanted the girl from the party. He wanted to be near her even though she continued to push him away. He couldn’t let go of the gorgeous girl with those stormy eyes.

They both had secrets they kept hidden from one another. They found it easier to talk to others than to confide in each other. Riley begins to realize Zander isn't who she thought he was and falling for the sexy voiced Lead Singer/Guitar player may be just what she needs.

They struggle through hard times and learn to trust again. But will the love that grows be enough to hold them together or will the heartache they suffer drive a wedge between them forever.
They could be toxic to one another or they could heal the wounds that run deep within their souls.

This was a sweet and light story but also packed a lot of angst.

Riley has come out of an abusive relationship so to say she is a little hesitant at dating again is not far from the truth. Coming from a family of brothers she is not however a wilting wallflower but she is still damaged from her ex’s behaviour toward her.

She meets Zander at a party and she finds his cheesy chat up lines funny. When she goes outside she thinks about where her life is at and to start giving somebody a chance at a relationship so she decides to go back in and talk more with the sexy Zander. However when she goes back in she sees him up close and personal with another girl and straight away she marks him as a player and leaves.

She continues to bump into him in the following weeks and he finally grinds her down to giving him a chance to talk. The story then unfolds with the relationship of Riley and Zander.

There was a lot of sweet and tender moments but there was also a lot of angst and frustration. It didn’t help that his best friend, Beth, who at first seemed to push for the pair to get together suddenly turns a full 360 and becomes the biatch from hell.

At time Zander frustrated me at his easy acceptance of what Beth said or that he didn’t even consider the displays of affection with Beth would have on his new girlfriend. I liked that Riley was strong in that she would not continue to take that behaviour from him.

There was lots of breaking up then making up until finally Zander realises the special thing he has with Riley. It was also good to see Beth get her comeuppance for her horrid treatment of Riley. What I liked furthermore though was how Riley rose above this and was the bigger person by making amends with Beth.

Overall it was an enjoyable read, even if a little immature in parts for my personal liking but it didn’t detract from me wanting to read the next book Broken by Love which is Riley’s brother Carson and her best friend Kate’s story. We saw both of these in this book so it was interesting to see how their story panned out.

Synopsis
Kate thought she and Carson had finally reached level ground. They had moved in together and were preparing for the arrival of their baby.

She never thought they would only be driven further apart by his withdrawn and distant behavior.

Carson had always had his freedom, and for a moment, he thought he could still live that life.

Only Kate needs more. She can no longer pretend that what he’s willing to offer is enough.

By the time Carson finally realizes that Kate deserves a better life than he’s been giving her, it may be too late.

He may have finally pushed her away to the point of no return…

This is the second book in the series and although it can be read as a standalone I would suggest the first book Scarred by Love is read first as the characters, Carson and Kate first appear in that book.

Cason and Kate have always had a volatile relationship, it is fiery and passionate. One minute they are arguing over the smallest of things to the next minute being all over each other like a rash.

The reader got to see flashes of their relationship in the first book so it was great to discover their story and understand them. I really loved this story as it seemed to me to be so much more developed and mature than the first book. Whether this is because Carson and Kate had a lot of growing up to do due to Kate having a baby I don’t know but the storyline really pulled at the heartstrings.

Carson was running scared when he found out that Kate was pregnant and he went off the rails by living as a single man and leaving poor Kate at home wondering where he was each night he was out drinking with his pals. It isn’t until he comes home one night and finds that Kate has moved out that he realises what a beautiful and precious thing he had. Kate however is strong in her determination not to put up with Carson’s behaviour anymore. The story then unfolds of Carson’s transformation into being the man that Kate needs and in doing so he sees the error of his ways in fighting something he should have been cherishing from the start.

I loved how Carson really turned himself around and there are some beautiful and touching moments that had me a little weepy eyed. I really felt for him when he seemed to be all on his own with everyone blaming him for ruining Kate’s life. It took a lot of soul searching and seeing the same behaviour being done by two of his brothers that he was able to show he was capable of turning his life around and being the man his family needed.

The story became even more touching when Kate gives birth. The way Carson refers to them as my girls, my family was so sweet and heart-warming. To see a grown man cry just gets to my heart strings. It was through all this that Kate begins to see that Carson is the man for her. There was also lots of steam-i-licious sexy times and the chemistry between them was hot!

I really loved this story and I was sorry to finish it. I miss them and their little family. So gorgeous.

I can’t wait to read the next book which I think is Max, Carson’s brother. He is an enigma and I just know he is going to be alpha-licous and sexy. Bring it on!
